Over the last week, the Marlins acquired…
Right-handed reliever Jorge Lopez from the Minnesota Twins for Dylan Floro.
Closer David Robertson from the New York Mets for Ronald Hernandez and Marco Vargas.
Third baseman Jake Burger from the Chicago White Sox for Jake Eder.
First baseman Josh Bell from the Cleveland Guardians for Kahlil Watson and Jean Segura.
Lefthander Ryan Weathers from the San Diego Padres for Garrett Cooper and Sean Reynolds.
So how do you think they fared overall?
Feel free to share more detailed thoughts in the comments below.
EDITOR’S NOTE: I could only list 5, and—after careful deliberation with our VFTB panel of experts—took the liberty of excluding Jean Segura and Dylan Floro. If you’d like to cast a vote for either of them, feel free to in the Comments below.
Even if more teams were sellers, we have to be realistic that the big-boy buyers would have lined up ahead of the Marlins. Cooper was done and so was Segura. It's also apparent that Watson wasn't held as highly by the organization anymore. Creative deals without much risk. Burger is controllable and has the power the team will desperately need as Soler departs - the best part of the deals, IMO.
I think the unknown parts of the equation for winning are the IL and AAA, how many are coming off injuries in the next few weeks and will they contribute. Also, from what I read, there's a few minor leaguers that might surprise us given a chance in the Show.
