#2: How will the Marlins address their rotation depth issue?
It was the news no Marlins fan wanted to hear, but, sadly, it shouldn’t have come as a surprise.
Sandy Alcantara took to social media last night to announce that he underwent Tommy John surgery yesterday and will miss the entire 2024 season.
And just like that, Kim Ng’s offseason may have gotten a lot more complicated.
The morning after Sandy went on the IL September 6 with what the club called a flexor tendon strain, I explained the likelihood of this outcome when I shared the laundry list of big league pitchers in recent years for whom that precise diagnosis had been a precursor to a sprained ulnar-collateral ligament and, ultimately, to Tommy John surgery.
I was thinking about Sandy early yesterday. It was unusual that no update on his status had been offered in recent weeks. No one covering the club seemed to have even asked the question. So I sent an email to multiple Marlins executives at about 10:30 a.m. yesterday looking for the latest.
