The Marlins can clinch a trip to the playoffs as soon as tonight with a win in Pittsburgh or a Cubs loss in Milwaukee.
And suddenly, as they have climbed only a half-game behind the D-Backs, the possibility of entering the playoffs as the 2nd Wild Card team, the #5 seed, is a distinct possibility.
The #5 seed would play the Phillies in the best-of-3 Wild Card series in Philadelphia. The winner of that series would advance to battle the Braves in the NLDS.
As the #6 seed, the Marlins would face the Brewers in Milwaukee in the Wild Card series, with the survivor moving on to tackle the Dodgers in the NLDS.
Both paths are tough. But, hey, it’s October.

The Phils and Braves are tougher than the Brew Crew and Dodgers this year.
Milwaukee and LA. Easy choice for me.
