Re: Why didn’t the Marlins hang on to the Big Fish, thanks Glenn for saying the quiet part out loud. When the Marlins got rid of Starling and Duvall, then turned around and went shopping for outfielders, I had to scratch my head.
There are always going to be moves that look bad in retrospect. I think those 2 decisions looked bad the minute they were made. And they look worse by the day with where both players contracts have gone (Marte ending up with way more than he would have taken to stay with the Marlins and Duvall continuing to look like one of the best values (production to salary) in MLB. He’s off to a red hot start for the Red Sox this year at a time the Marlins need power and a center fielder.
Along those same lines, I’m wondering if Ng may have been a bit hasty non-tendering Brian Anderson. His true talents may have been crippled by injuries. He’s made some great throws from right field. If he can stay healthy, can he return to his former prowess?
He’s off to a tremendous start in Milwaukee, and I’m happy for him. But I feel like he’s a guy who really needed a change of scenery.
Injuries certainly were a factor during his years with the Marlins, but I think being here as long as he was beat him down a bit. The losing. The empty ballpark night after night. Moving back and forth from 3B to RF.
I think he can excel as a complementary player in a better lineup in a better hitter’s park. For a lot of his time here, he was expected to be a middle-of-the-order bat in a lot of bad lineups in a tough park in which to hit.
I think he just needed a fresh start somewhere else, and I’m happy to see him off to such a great start.
Into Wednesday, he had 10 RBI, and the Marlins had 10 runs scored for the season.
I love what he does defensively at 3B or in RF. His OF arm is a game changer. I really liked Brian. He’s a guy I’ll always pull for.
Enjoyable read. My take on the WBC is the game was second fiddle to the event. Fans wanted to come up and display their proudness of their nationality, similar to when the Yankees come to town. 😇

Another reason why those same people don't attend Marlins games. As I said, they're Dominicans, Venezuelans, Puerto Ricans and Cubans. Not Marlins.
The most fun nights I’ve seen in the stadium is on Latin nights! It’s fun to watch and fires up the players.
Awesome mailbag. And wow about some of those ideas about ways to change the broadcast.
Thanks for the answer. Totally agree on Dave Van Horne's points.
