Drew Maggi was also my favorite story of the week originally shown to me by Scoop, my 10 year old grandson. Maggi is one of the reasons I love baseball. What a testament to hard work and never giving up.
The Pirates are on a magic carpet ride so far. I’m not sure it’s sustainable, but we’ll see. Regardless good for them.
It all started when they decided to bring Andrew McCutchen back. He’s a far cry from the player he once was, but a guy like that still adds a lot to the ballclub, and he gives fans a reason to care even if the team isn’t winning. He’s also a link to happier days.
If they didn’t have a prospect ready to go and didn’t want to sign a prime free agent, they could easily have split DH at-bats among several players or brought in a replacement-level outfielder for far less than the $5 million they’re paying McCutchen.
Good for them for bringing him in. Their young players can learn from him, and they’ve given fans a reason to care no matter how the team plays the rest of the way. On top of that, he’s actually been somewhat productive so far.

That’s White Sox caller did not have a “um” in his entire rant. That was a spectacular heartfelt rant and kudos to the booth for not interrupting him.
There are a few cities where sports talk radio is still alive and well. Chicago is definitely one of them.
