Today’s news that Sandy Alcantara has been placed on the 15-day IL with what the club is calling a forearm flexor strain is more than just a blow to the Marlins’ 2023 Wild Card hopes. It’s also a reminder of something I’ve been harping on since early July: The Marlins’ lack of starting pitching depth could prove to be this team’s fatal flaw.
And, if it’s not addressed in a significant way, especially in light of today’s news regarding Alcantara, it threatens to prevent the club from competing among the league’s best in 2024 as well.
