The Marlins have reached the middle of June in playoff position.

Taking advantage of a 50-game soft spot on the schedule (they’re 22-15 with 13 to go), and piling up one-run wins in bunches, the club has positioned itself to potentially be in the hunt for a Wild Card spot down the stretch in 2023.

And with Major League Baseball’s August 1 trading deadline less than 7 weeks away, now’s the time to start scouring the bottom of the league in search of targets to improve the ballclub.

Or is it?

For a variety of reasons, this deadline is shaping up to be one of the toughest in years for a contender that’s looking to make a splash to energize its 26-man roster and its fanbase.
