If 2023 is going to be any different, the Marlins are going to have to find a way to compete head-to-head with the Big 3 in the NL East
If the Marlins are to improve significantly upon last year’s 69-93 record, one of the biggest advantages they would seem to have in 2023 is the new MLB schedule, which reduces the number of games teams play within their division.
Instead of playing 6 series and 19 games against the Braves, Mets and Phillies—the Big 3 in the NL East—the Marlins must play only 4 series and 13 games against each this season, meaning they have 18 fewer match-ups with those heavyweights against whom Miami finished 19-38 in 2022.
