I was thinking about Luis Arraez with the Marlins in San Diego the last 3 days to face the Padres at Petco Park, “The House that Gwynn Built.”

It doesn’t feel like that long ago that MLB Network and ESPN were following Arraez’s chase for .400 on a daily basis, but the 26-year-old second baseman has come back to earth since last breathing the rarified air of .400 when his average stood at .401 through 72 games on June 24.

In 50 games since, he’s batted a more mortal .292.
