Happy to be done with the Braves, the Marlins enter a favorable stretch of schedule beginning this afternoon in Chicago
THE BAD NEWS: With yesterday’s 6-3 loss to the Braves, the Marlins are 5-12 against the Big 3 of the NL East. They’re 1-6 against the Braves, 2-5 against the Mets and 2-1 against the Phillies.
THE GOOD NEWS: After yesterday, the Marlins don’t face the Braves, Mets or Phillies in their next 16 series and 50 games. Between now and June 30, when they open a series in Atlanta, they play the Cubs, D-Backs, Reds, Nationals, Giants, Rockies, Angels, Padres, Athletics, Royals, White Sox, Mariners, the Nats again, the Blue Jays, Pirates and Red Sox.
It’s hard to imagine an easier schedule over nearly 2 months. Among all those teams, only the Padres, Blue Jays and Mariners were considered playoff contenders heading into the season. Miami’s opponents over their next 50 games are a combined 46 games under .500.
