Having lost 6 of 7 since the trade deadline, Arte Moreno’s club looks to have potentially set themselves back years with the decision to hang on to the pending free agent 2-way unicorn.
They decided to forego a massive haul in exchange for trading the MVP favorite to instead try to make a quixotic bid for a trip to the playoffs this season. With their October hopes fading by the hour, it appears all they’ll get for their efforts is a compensatory draft pick between the 2nd and 3rd rounds when Ohtani signs elsewhere this winter.
It has the potential to be a franchise-changing missed opportunity.
